My child played around inside a playpen, while I was working 12-hour shifts, sanding the floor and taking down the wallpaper. Ha! The whole thing started to make sense, but was still far from being completed. It would take an enormous amount of work as well as a passion for shopping. My three sons and me searched for hidden gems while going to estate sales in order to help ensure that my spending was under control. Our routine for the week consisted of walking from Thursday to Saturday through estate sales and garage sales to purchase a mix of antique and brand new furniture and then I would spend the weekdays painting sanding in the driveway. My passion for restoration of furniture started with an appearance like this. No matter what, the home was furnished. At the local market I was able to rent a tiny area and then sold a few pieces. Then I bought more that I knew about and had outgrown the space. My home became a place that I hosted open houses, where up 1000 people would be able to view the things on my first floor and purchase these items. My business Growing Days began here. Not only was my business flourishing, but I was also growing our family of four. There was a perfect balance between starting a new business and becoming a mother. Growing Days seemed like the ideal combination. In 2013, my sweet daughter Nora joined our 4th kiddo. Though I was content about the direction my company was taking, I realized that I needed to take an occasional break. I took a break from making vintage furniture, and slowed down my pace in order to stay at home and help my children. In the beginning, this was exactly what I needed. After a while, without a phone, it began to ring. They were asking for assistance with interior decorating as well as renovations. A majority of those calling me were from those who attended one of my furniture open houses. I started taking on some clients at a time working at my own pace but it wasn't too time before I was running multiple accounts and was running a complete home renovation business. If you'd have predicted that this venture of mine could become the premise of a tv show on DIY Network I probably would have laughed. As I reflect on the situation I am laughing.
